Household budget

An envelope is a limit per category and month
Choose how much the household can spend in each category this month (groceries, school, leisure) and save. Tenka measures spending by itself from the entries of that category and shows what is left. An envelope with no value means "no limit": the category shows up, but nobody is notified.
Cancel or renegotiate a subscription
In the list of subscriptions Tenka found, the scissors open the service’s guide: where to cancel (website, app, app store or carrier support), how much the household saves per year and what the law guarantees. If you would rather try for a better price, Renegotiate via WhatsApp opens a ready message with what you paid before the increase. Then record the request with the protocol number: it stays in the request list to follow up.
How to
The assistant warns ahead
Every day Tenka checks the household and alerts in the bell, changing nothing: the envelope that, at the month’s pace, runs out before month-end (from day 5); a purchase 2.5× the category average or the same purchase entered twice within 48 hours; and uncategorised spending for 3 days. Each alert arrives once.
Share the month’s snapshot
“Share” creates an image with income, spending, surplus, the five biggest categories and the envelopes — ready for the family group. On the phone it opens the device’s share sheet (WhatsApp); on the computer it opens the image to save. Whoever cannot see values gets the image with percentages only, and a “only I see” account or card never goes in.
Why the median and not the average
With incomes of 4, 5, 5, 6 and 20 thousand, the average is 8 thousand and the median 5 thousand. Budgeting on the average makes the household spend as if every month were the 20-thousand month; on the median, the exceptional month becomes savings. It is the same reason statistics offices publish median income.
Rules
What counts as envelope spending
Every expense entry of the category in the month, including purchases made on the card (they carry a category). The card statement itself does NOT count: it repeats the purchases, and adding both would double the spending. Cancelled or deleted entries are also left out.
How the month leftover is calculated
Leftover = what I have today (calculated balance of the accounts) + what comes in this month (receivables and fixed income not yet posted) − what goes out this month (payables, the open card statement due this month and fixed bills not yet posted). Statement and recurrences are included because they are the bills a household forgets: the ones that have not arrived yet.
Notice at 80% and at 100%
Once a day Tenka looks at the envelopes of the month. When one passes 80% of its limit, everyone on the account gets a notice; when it passes 100%, another one. Each notice goes out only once per envelope and month — running again does not repeat it. The notice leads to this screen, in the right month and envelope.
Envelope per person or family
Choose "for whom" at the top: the envelopes become those of that family, person or car. Spending adds the center, everything under it and the split share that belongs to them. "The whole household" is the budget without a center.
I can spend today and what it costs to be this household
I can spend today = the month’s expected surplus, minus what is reserved for annual bills and what goals ask for each month, divided by the days left (today included); negative becomes zero. What it costs = expense recurring rules (monthly value), discovered subscriptions not yet a rule and the annual bills’ monthly saving; next to it, how much of income that commits.
Envelope that rolls over
Tick “Rolls over” on the envelope and whatever is left in a month moves to the next — the month’s available becomes the limit plus what accumulated since January. Overspending resets it (or is deducted next month, if FAMILIA.ENVELOPE_ESTOURO_DESCONTA is on). Applies to the whole household.
Subscriptions and fixed bills found on their own
Tenka looks through the last 6 months for the same charge in 3 or more months, with value varying up to 15% and around the same day. Each shows the average, the day and whether it went up (over 10% from the previous month — you get an alert once). “Make it a fixed bill” creates the recurring rule; “not a subscription” removes it for good.
Essential, necessary or extra
Each category can be ESSENTIAL (groceries, housing, health, education), NECESSARY (transport, condo fees) or EXTRA (leisure). The month bar shows how much went to each; Family accounts start with the default categories marked. Change it on the category card.
Irregular income: median and cushion
Freelancers, contractors and people on commission have good and lean months. When income varies more than 30% across the last 6 months, Tenka switches the budget basis to the MEDIAN of those months — the middle value, which one exceptional month cannot pull — and "can spend today" only releases what is left after keeping a cushion of 1 month of fixed cost in the bank. In a month above the median, "save the difference" appears and the household watch warns you. Parameter FAMILIA.RENDA_IRREGULAR turns it always on (SIM) or off (NAO).
Household screens are in the Family group
Household budget, forecast, goals, assets, settling up between families, income tax, stock trades, well-being and the monthly conversation are together in the Family group of the menu. Nothing changes in what the household sees or has already entered: only the place in the menu. Business accounts do not see these screens.
Frequently asked questions
New month, do I start from scratch?
Use "Copy from last month": last month limits go into the envelopes that still have no limit this month. What you already typed stays. Then adjust what changed.
Does quick search (Ctrl+K) show business screens in the family account?
No. In the family account quick search offers only household screens: those in the family menu (budget, forecast, entries, accounts, cards, goals, assets, investments, debts, settling between families, income tax) and those of the Family module. Business screens show neither in search nor in the menu.
