The lab that proves the yarn
Each report is a tested yarn lot. Type it or import the Uster Tester, Classimat or AFIS CSV: the check shows what goes in before saving. The Control tab shows the parameter control chart, Cpk against the customer specification and the percentile on the world scale.
Trace, customer and lot certificate
The report’s “Trace, customer and COA” tab gathers what the customer asks: the lot certificate of analysis as a PDF in their language, which laydown and bales the yarn came from (with suppliers and gins), the chain of custody (% ABR, Better Cotton, organic by mass balance) and what the group’s knitting mill found in the fabric made with the lot.
How to
Spinning glossary — yarn quality
Count (Ne): how many 840-yard hanks weigh one pound — Ne 30 is finer than Ne 20. CVm: mass irregularity along the yarn (%). IPI: imperfections per km — thin (−50%), thick (+50%) and neps (+200%). Hairiness (H): loose fibres out of the yarn. RKM: yarn tenacity (cN/tex). Classimat: classification of rare faults into 45 classes. Percentile: the result’s position on the world scale (25% = better than 75% of production). Cpk: the process capability of staying within specification.
Count with unit and filament
Enter the count in the unit it arrives in (Ne, Nm, tex, dtex or denier): Tenka also stores it in Ne. For filament (POY, DTY, FDY, ATY), give the number of filaments and the intermingling per meter.
DTY 150/48
150 denier in 48 filaments: Ne 35.43, 16.67 tex, 166.7 dtex; dpf 3.13. The "Count in every unit" tab shows all five and warns when it is microfiber (dpf below 1).
Rules
When the point goes out of control
The chart uses the mean and deviation of the last 25 reports of the same yarn and parameter (±3σ limits). It alarms when a point crosses a limit, 2 of 3 go beyond 2σ on the same side, 4 of 5 beyond 1σ or 8 in a row stay on the same side of the mean (Western Electric rules) — and the alarm shows in “Needs you”.
Certification mass balance
Each certification % is the weight of certified bales in the laydown ÷ total laydown weight. ABR + Better Cotton counts for both. It is the same mass-balance logic as chain-of-custody standards — and the data the 2028 digital passport will ask for per lot.
Frequently asked questions
What is Cpk?
Cpk measures whether the process fits the specification with margin: (distance from the mean to the nearest limit) ÷ 3 deviations. Cpk ≥ 1.33 is a capable process; between 1 and 1.33 is tight; below 1 the yarn is often out of range. It is the number large customers ask for in the supplier questionnaire.
