The 5 forces
Rivalry among competitors, threat of new entrants, bargaining power of suppliers, bargaining power of customers and threat of substitutes. The stronger they are, the harder it is to profit in the industry.
How to
Pré-preencher pelo seu setor com o Tenkai
The "Pre-fill from my industry (Tenkai)" button proposes the typical factors for your industry with suggested intensities — a starting point so you don't begin from a blank page. Review each factor: adjust the intensity in the selector on its own row (the calculation updates instantly) and delete whatever does not describe your reality. If generation fails, the screen shows a warning and nothing you already had is changed.
Rules
How to score
List factors under each force and give an intensity from 1 (weak) to 5 (strong). The force is the average of its factors and falls into a range: Low, Medium or High.
Intensity and attractiveness
Intensity is the average of the 5 forces. High intensity = low attractiveness (a difficult industry); low intensity = high attractiveness (more room to profit).
A 6ª força: reguladores, fisco e normas
Besides the 5 classic forces, the screen includes a sixth: regulators — tax authorities, agencies, industry standards and certifications — with its own button when adding factors. In many Brazilian industries it shapes the game more than direct competition does, which is why it goes into the calculation. Treat it like the others: concrete factors with intensity, and the average of the factors becomes the force's band, which makes up the overall competitive intensity.
Frequently asked questions
Where it fits in
The 5 Forces are a step in the Guided Business Plan: the intensity calculated here is the input that the trail hands to the next step. Use the reading to decide on a posture — a highly intense sector calls for defensible differentiation and caution with price wars; a low-intensity one calls for speed to occupy space while the pressure is weak. The calculation memory appears right on the colored card at the top, alongside the intensity and the attractiveness.
